The Ask

In a space-constrained Singapore, is up the only way to go for livable space?

The Reality

Subterranean spaces have long existed in Singapore but underground space as a form of accommodation is something that has yet been fully explored.

The Work

artshouse is a way of introducing the concept of living underground. A fully residential unit underground would feel a tad too adventurous, so an amphitheatre catering to the arts felt like a more viable move. Down below, claustrophobia is some of the major concerns so spaces had to be re-thought. Elements like the shared kitchen felt crucial, in culminating a more livable space underground. When we look at the subterranean for space to live in, we believe common areas such as the living, dining rooms are something that we need to spend more time planning for.
